Happy Tuesday everybody!
So with a lot of tv shows coming back after their summer break, I thought it would be fun to share some of the shows I’ve been enjoying lately!
Mindhunter (Seasons 1-2)
I had watched S1E1 a couple of months back but never continued because, to be honest, the second half of S1E1 is pretty slow. However, season 2 has been released now and everybody’s been loving it. So, I decided to give it another shot and man, I am so glad I did. The show really picks up after S1E2. It has me hooked. I love it. I’ve always enjoyed crime thriller shows. Criminal Minds is one of my favourite shows ever, so it’s really no surprise that I ended up loving Mindhunter. I do have a bit of a weird interest in serial killers so the fact that they portray actual well-known serial killers (e.g. Ed Kemper, Berkowitz, BTK, Manson, etc.) in the show is brilliant. And it’s so fascinating.
The show is set in the late 70s, the main characters are the originators of the FBI’s Behavioural Science Unit (what Criminal Minds is). It’s very interesting to see them come up with certain terms (e.g “serial killer”, “stressor”, etc) or realise patterns in serial killers’ behaviours and upbringings.
Season 2 is just as good as season 1, if not better!! I cannot wait for season 3 (and there better be one!).
No surprise here: I definitely recommend it.
Élite (Seasons 1-2)
Disclaimer: I wrote this Élite part a little while back just after finishing S2
Just.. holy shit. I just finished season 2 so forgive me if I ramble a bit.
Right off the bat, this is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. The characters, the dialogue, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the plot. Phew.
So, Élite follows the students of an elite secondary school in Spain. Basically, some constructor screws up and a school building comes down. To get back in people’s good graces, he pays for three students of that school to go to Las Encinas, which is that elite secondary school I mentioned. Now you have three teens from a poorer neighbourhood mixing with these rich kids, naturally drama ensues. Especially when one of the students ends up dead.
This may sound like another teen drama high school show but LISTEN, it isn’t. It’s a million times better than any other teen drama I’ve seen. For the most part, the writers really know what they’re doing. The relationships, the tensions, the plot twists, so good. And season two just might be even better than season one! It’s wild. (And it’s the first time I ended up liking almost all of the new characters a show introduced in a new season!!)
Like I said, I’m rambling but I don’t want you to have too high expectations and then be disappointed. Just go into it with an open mind and let it blow you away.
Lucifer (Seasons 1-3)
Another show I had stopped watching after.. one season I think? With this one, though, I honestly don’t remember why I stopped. I restarted a couple of months back. It’s so good! I had forgotten. The cast and their characters are brilliant. The devil comes to earth because he’s bored of hell? Becomes a night-club owner? Ends up working with the LAPD? Iconic, really. No, I’m serious. You might think it’s ridiculous but the show is really good. Not just the characters, the plot, too. I just finished season 3 (with a banger) and am so ready for season 4! Sadly they’ve confirmed that the next season, the fifth, will be the last. Such a waste of potential, but then again, that’s what Netflix’s known for but that’s for another day.
You should give this show a try!
Raising Dion (Season 1)
Okay so I just started this show, I think I’m on like episode 5. But I’m binging. What got me interested is the cast but I have to say, the story is what has me hooked. I had never heard of Raising Dion before but I’m super glad Netflix made a web series! It’s really unique!
I’m not too sure what else to say, yet, except I highly recommend it!
This is it and I hope I got to introduce at least one show to you!
What shows do you watch? Have you watched any of these? Do you agree/disagree with me?
