Mini Review: Parasite (2019) (Oscars ’20 series, #2)

Hey everybody!

Second review for my Oscars 2020 series!!

So.. Parasite.

I had kind of high expectations because everyone was hyping this film so much, everyone adoooored it.

What I liked the most was the performances by the actors and the way it was shot. In that respect, I believe Parasite definitely deserves its Academy Awards nominations.

As for the storyline, I believe if you go into it blindly you’ll enjoy it the most. Although I didn’t know much, I only knew a tiny (turns out not so tiny) detail about the film, I think it did change my experience. Parasite is kind of different, in a good way, but nothing too.. extraordinary? Don’t come for me hahah. I liked the twists, the themes and it is a great movie but maybe my expectations were just too high.

Something that really bothered me was the age gap. Or well, how old and young they looked. I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t say who or what. If you’ve seen the film, you know what I mean.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed it. But I have to say, it’s not a movie I’ll be talking about for weeks on end. However, I do hope Bong Joon-ho wins the directing category. I’ve seen 3/5 of the nominees so far and unless the other two change my mind, he should win.

Letterboxd rating: 4 out of 5

Have you seen Parasite? What do you think? Do you agree/disagree?
